SOCIAL VALUE

ryr web images.png

Our Social Value mission is rooted in community. We are dedicated to building meaningful social value by nurturing strong, collaborative relationships with the people and places we serve. By engaging openly and respectfully with local communities, partners, and individuals, we strive to foster shared growth and create lasting, sustainable impact.

We believe that vibrant, inclusive communities are the foundation of a better future. That’s why we prioritise active dialogue, responsible action, and support for initiatives that address local needs and promote equity. We are especially proud to stand with our local community, offering ongoing support to charities such as The Ferry Project, FACT, and Lennox Cancer Fund - just a few of the many organisations making a real difference.

Our social value vision is centered on making a positive impact in our community by promoting sustainable practices and fostering inclusivity. We utilise our social value portal to effectively record, track, and evaluate our initiatives, transparency and accountability in our efforts. This platform allows us to measure the outcomes, helping us refine our strategies and maximise our contributions to social good. Through this commitment, we strive to create meaningful change and inspire others to join us in our mission.

Rain Garden Project

All Saints Interchurch Academy

RYR - MIDDLE LEVEL COMMISSIONERS - BALFOUR BEATTY

In October 2024, we began the Rain Garden Project!

As part of the initiative, RYR, Middle Level Commissioners, and Balfour Beatty spoke to Year 6 pupils at All Saints Interchurch Academy about flood resilience, ending the session with a creative competition to design their ideal rain garden. The winning designs were chosen by MLC and Balfour Beatty staff!

Special thanks to Balfour Beatty for donating time and expertise, with key support from Paul Harrison, Darren Hitchings, and local team member Matt Oakey — and to Land and Water and Balfour Beatty for providing the materials.

On 28 April 2025, we officially opened the garden - with pupils helping complete the final planting!

A fantastic community effort to promote sustainability and education - and a huge shoutout to Jill, whose vision brought this project to life. From conception to completion, it was Jill’s idea from the start - all from a simple brief: “Can we include sustainability and water management?” She worked tirelessly to develop the concept, organise everyone’s roles, and coordinate the selection of products and materials to make it all happen!

Social Value in Action

RECOGNISING THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PROCESS

At RYR, social value isn’t a box-ticking exercise, it’s at the heart of everything we do. Whether we're on-site supporting coastal protection at Anderby Creek with Van Oord or working alongside teams in Jackson Civil Engineering, we make it a priority to recognise and appreciate the people driving progress every day.

This Easter, that meant more than just delivering infrastructure, it meant delivering smiles. From surprising on-site teams with Easter eggs to supporting local charities like Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund and FACT’s Community Fridge, we’re proud to spread a little seasonal joy while reinforcing our core values: community, care, and connection.

We believe small gestures can lead to meaningful impact. Because at RYR, it’s not just about what we build - it’s about who we build it for, and with.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

We are committed to creating a workplace where equality, diversity, and inclusion are integral to our operations. We value and promote an inclusive environment where everyone is treated fairly, with dignity and respect.

Our aim is to attract, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We aim to ensure that everyone in the workplace feels valued, respected, and supported, regardless of their background or personal characteristics.

Modern Slavery

We are committed to combatting slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains, and we make this statement to assist with compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015. This statement relates to the financial year ending 30/08/2024.
