BEACH MANAGEMENT SCHEME

RYR provided all the stakeholder and public liaison support to this project and are committed to keeping the local community and our stakeholders consulted, informed, and engaged.

We want to keep stakeholders involved and give them the opportunity to be involved in the implementation of future flood risk protection and possible enhancements.

The £10m annual beach renourishment work replaces the sand that is lost to erosion over the winter months, reducing wave overtopping during storms and protecting the sea defences from being damaged. Reducing flood risk to 20,000 residential homes, 1,700 businesses, 24,500 static caravans, 35,000 hectares of farmland and a bustling tourist industry.

These works are part of the new long term strategy for the Lincolnshire coast.

The strategy is in the planning and survey stage and is being developed through the engagement process by listening to our stakeholders and the community through formal consultation with statutory bodies.

We have been hosting and engaging at statutory stakeholder engagement workshops and public consultation events involving business, tourism and community representatives as well as members of the general public.

This is providing a wealth of local views and preferences which is being incorporated into the strategic future approach.

UPDATE: 7th November 2025

We’re proud to share that the Environment Agency’s Saltfleet to Gibraltar Point Beach Management Scheme was a finalist in the Upgrade and Renewal Project category at the British Construction & Infrastructure (BCI)Awards 2025!

The black tie awards ceremony took place at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, in the heart of Mayfair, London, a fitting venue to celebrate excellence in resilience.

Although we didn’t win this time, being shortlisted among such exceptional projects is a huge achievement.

Monica and Yazmin are part of the team delivering vital stakeholder engagement services, ensuring communities are informed and involved throughout this important coastal resilience project.

Huge congratulations to Monica, Yazmin and everyone involved – what an incredible journey!

UPDATE: January 2026

To deepen community connection, in 2025 we made improvements to the Public Information Unit (PIU) to make it more welcoming and accessible:

· Accessible colour palette: Wrapped the PIU using high contrast, accessible colours to support people with visual, cognitive, or sensory impairments.

· Ramp installation: Refurbished the ramp so people with mobility needs can enter and move around the unit safely and independently.

· Talking wheel device: Reduced the wording in the PIU and installed a tactile spinning wheel that speaks, telling the story allowing blind and visually impaired visitors to hear project information and connect fully with the work.

· Video screen showing the work in action: We added a video screen for visitors to see how beach nourishment and coastal protection work takes place. This visual storytelling has helped people better understand the scale, purpose, and impact of the project.

We also recently supported the Environment Agency by facilitating a SERA workshop for the Saltfleet to Gibraltar Point Beach Management project. Using SERA, the project team built a clearer, shared understanding of where potential risks might emerge if engagement is not approached carefully — and what level of resource, planning and communication will be required going forward.
